Meet kerstin:
At age seven, Kerstin Smutny-Lewis attended the Puyallup State Fair and spotted a display for Quarter Midgets. She went out and tried driving one, and after that, she fell in love with racing and hasn’t turned back since that day.
In six years of racing Quarter Midgets, Smutny won five championships at the club and regional levels. She also competed in seven national races and earned five top-10 finishes and five track records.
Smutny isn’t likely to be found following in someone else’s footsteps, rather you will find her blazing her own trail and leaving others in her wake. In 2005, Smutny was the first woman to be invited to the Formula BMW USA licensing course in Valencia, Spain. Subsequently, she was chosen as one of the best drivers participating in the licensing course to be invited back to Valencia for the Formula BMW USA Scholarship Run-Offs.
In 2006, Smutny won several scholarships further proving that she is on the rise. She was the winner of the PitFit Driver Memorial Scholarship Winner, Lyn St. James Driver Development Scholarship Winner and the Women’s Sports Foundation Jump Start Scholarship Winner. Following those wins, Smutny earned five top-five finishes in six races with one podium finish in 2007. She was also a Women in the Winners Circle Featured Driver for 2007 as well as 2012.
Smutny finished the year fourth in the 2008 Washington Midget Racing Association season standings, and that helped her secure a spot to race in the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup. Once again Smutny lead the way being only one of two women to compete in the series that traveled all across the United States stopping at some of the most prestigious road courses in America, including: Infineon Raceway, Road America, Road Atlanta and Virginia International Raceway.
In 2012 Smutny raced with World Speed Motorsports. She saw the podium several times in the FS 2.0 Formula Car Challenge Series, in multiple races at Sonoma and Portland International Raceway.
Since then Smutny has kept her skills honed with karting at local tracks near her home in the Northwest.
In 2016 Kerstin married her husband, Justin, and they welcomed their first child, Haley. In 2019 they welcomed, daughter Kimber to the family. Both girls love anything on wheels!
When not racing, Kerstin enjoys spending time with family, the outdoors, and fitness.
Currently she is working on securing partnership to be back in the seat full time for the 2020 season!
